2025년 22주차 영어공부
영어 공부 정리를 안했더니... 정체되는 것 같다. 복습 겸 정리를 하면서 진행하자.
1. 원서 읽기 _ The Prince And The Pauper
최근 아침 독서용으로 매일 매일 열심히 읽고 있는 작품.
고어체로 진행이 되고 있어서 독해 난이도가 높은 편인데다, 실생활에 쓸 수 없기도 해서, 과연 이 책이 나의 영어 실력 향상에 도움이 되고 있는 것인지 애매하다.
그래도 매일 15분씩 열심히 읽어서 거의 결말 부분까지 도달했고 이야기는 은근 재밌다. 읽으면 읽을수록 가짜 왕자보다 진짜 왕자한테 감정이 이입되는데, 이거.. 작가의 의도가.. 맞는걸까?
단어 정리
- imposter: a person who makes a deceitful pretenses / 사칭하는 사람, 사기꾼
- assault: a close fighting during the culmination of a military attack / 폭행, 공격, 비난, 습격
- rabble: a disorderly crowd of people / 오합지졸, 무질서한 군중

① financial implications: 비즈니스나 뉴스, 리포트에 자주 나오는 표현으로 특정 결과나 사건이 돈이나 재정에 미치는 영향을 의미.

→ 이 프로젝트를 시작하기 전에 금전적인 영향을 고려해야해
The financial implications of quitting your job could be serious.
→ 일을 그만두는게 경제적으로 큰 결과를 초래할 수도 있어.

① adding to the urgency: 긴박함을 더하다, 상황을 더 급박하게 만든다는 부가 설명 구문으로 보통 어떤 상황이 급한데, 그 급함을 더 키우는 요소가 생겼을 때 씁니다.

→ 상황을 더 시급하게 만드는 건, 핵심 엔지니어 몇 명이 이미 회사를 떠났다는 점이다.

② fiber: 기본 의미는 섬유, 섬유질을 말하지만 해당 기사에서 쓰인 의미는 optic fiber, 광섬유/광케이블을 의미합니다.
